- April 08
I thought I'd
put a little info about my Sundays, and
the gig status. Nothing bad happening
at Spanky's, but I've needed a break from
the 5 years, or more, of Sundays there -
I think the audience might feel the same..
hehe. With some Sunday afternoon offers
from Mariner's, many festivals, and Spanky's
Block Party all coming up, I may not show
up there for some time. But, I'm giving
a few other acts an opportunity there.
I might be working myself out of a gig -
who knows? Back when I had this amazing
Tuesday show at the Caterie, I was so scared
to take a single night off, for fear of
someone more talented just scooping that
show away from me, that I only took off
for like 2 sick days over the course of
5 years. But, there seems to be enough
work for us all, right now - enough for
me, anyway.
So, this Sunday,
April 13, I'm off and local boys, Nuclear
Wetsuit, are doing an acoustic set at Spanky's.
Sunday, April 20th, I'm back at Mariner's
Inn on the Amite. Sunday, April 27th,
JazzFest is tempting and who wants to work
after that long, fun, hot day? "I'll
kick it around" ..... Sunday, May 4th,
is the Spanky's Block Party, so I'm not
playing. Sunday, May 11th, I'll be
at Mariner's. It's looking like May
18th might be my next return.
Spanky's has been
great to me, and my only steady, weekly
gig. They really have made me part
of the company - I should work for stock
interest! There will continue to be
live music there on Sundays, and I'll be
back.
I’m so glad you
stopped by to read the monthly ramblings.
I had a nice month of business in March,
and a wonderful St. Patrick’s celebration,
on Mar. 15. Thanks Kelly – always
a day I enjoy, every year. So, the
great time of year begins – more festivals
than you can shake a cup of beer at, more
choices of fried dishes at the festivals,
more live music outdoors, more crawfish,
more warm weather, and I hope less white
legs – regardless, they are coming
out folks, so cover your eyes. I’ll
be on some patio gigs this month, so these
beauties are getting exposed!
I’ll give you a
few festivals to check into:
Cajun Hot Sauce
Festival, New Iberia – Apr.
4 – 6 – www.sugarena.com
Kite Festival,
Baton Rouge – Apr. 4 – 6 –

New Orleans Jazz

www.nojazzfest.com
French Quarter Festival
and Jazz Fest food is well worth the trip,
not to mention the incredible music.
Do yourself a favor and go to some of these
– it’s the best reason to live
around here.
So, I’ve got some
new gigs, which I hope you will like and
check into. This Sunday, April 6,
I’m gonna skip Spanky’s and
play at Mariner’s Inn on the Amite.
It is across from Fred’s on the river.
They have created a great space outside,
and I hope you’ll come enjoy the weather,
as the sun goes down. It’s 5
– 9pm – perfect! I might
take them up on this gig a lot more, if
I can get Spanky’s covered.
Another new gig is the
Pelican Pub, on Hwy. 44, right outside Pelican
Point, out here in G-town – exit I-10
at Burnside and head on down to the river
– it’s on the right. 6473
Hwy. 44. I’ll do 2 Thursdays
this month. They will be adding much
live music, soon. Link here for their
myspace.
I’m going back to
Monjuni’s on Jefferson this Spring,
singing on their patio. Also, another
patio gig at Serrano’s on the 16th.
I’ll return to the Pastime, Southpaws,
both Half Shells, and Superior Grill.
Not sure who’ll join me at Superior
this month, but Matt Doran can’t make
it – drag!
Let me go ahead and promote/announce
this Spanky’s Block Party
on May 4. This is a great
event and is growing every year. They
spent a lot on great bands this year.
There is a $15 cover charge, but the acts
are all well worth it. Here is the
schedule:
2pm David
Borne on acoustic w/Brett Smith
4pm Chris
LeBlanc Band
6pm Long
Neck Society
8pm Spank
the Monkey
10pm Benjy
Davis Project
I helped put this all
together, so I hope it will be an exciting
and fun day for Spanky’s and all in
attendance. Come on out to Spanky’s
on Airline in P’ville. And,
since I won’t be working that day,
I picked up a gig the following day –
Cinco de Mayo! –
at Mi Padre’s in Prairieville, with
Matt Doran. We’ll be there from
4 – 8pm. Come have a margarita
with us. It should be a nice time.
So, it’s a busy
month, and the fun choices are limitless.
I’ve put in gardens all around the
back yard, and I hope I’ll fix up
the front yard, too. It never ends,
even for us lazy, soon-to-be 46 year olds.
And, speaking of birthdays:

….. Happy Birthday, Selena!
Nothing makes sense about it – but
I can’t question it when I see this.
Love you, Sunshine. I hope you have
the best of birthday months!
Thanks,
Kirk
