August 2010

What a great month July has been, and I’m really pumped about all that is coming up!  I was able to play Margaritaville again, after years of absence.  We saw Michael Buble in concert!  And visited two new restaurants: Taste of Bavaria in Ponchatoula for a great German lunch, and Rambla in New Orleans for Spanish Tapas.  Of course, football is huge in our minds.  I thought I’d make predictions this month, but I might wait until September and hear a bit more coach-speak before I prognosticate.  Saints are gonna be exciting, though!  I have another wonderful, corporate gig with Wyndham Hotels this month, and I lined up a gig at L’Auberge in Lake Charles, with Travis Thibodaux, in October.  I did get jury duty this month and have no good excuse to miss it – so, I hope that goes on without much struggle, and I suppose I’ll be glad to do my part.

I have to begin by saying that there will be no Elvis and Jesse Show this month, and I do say that with much regret.  I apologize to the folks who support us so well and get as excited as we do for its arrival.  I apologize to my cohort, Gerard Langlois, aka Elvis.  I am really busy, and excited, preparing for the biggest change in my life; and, I just knew I couldn’t put the time, effort, and expenditure into what is a very dear event for me.  We will be back and better than ever in 2011!!  If you need a fix, it’s Elvis Week at Graceland and Memphis this month - http://www.elvisweek.com

So, I’m back at Mi Padre’s Prairieville, as part of weekly live music on Thursdays.  Laurie Whitney and I will repeat our acoustic duo at On the Half Shell this month.  After being away for a while, I’m back at Onezia and Mike Anderson’s Gonzales.  Good gigs at Serrano’s, Sullivan’s, Spanky’s, Country Club of Louisiana, The Rusty Nail, Southpaws, Metairie Country Club, and George’s all continue.  Check my Dates page on www.kirkholder.com

Two special events this month:

Aug. 7  CJ Solar CD Release Party and Going Away to Nashville/College Send-off!!  La Caretta Bluebonnet, 6 – 10pm     Kirk Holder, Chris LeBlanc, and David St. Romain, plus Stan Campbell, Joey Decker, Solar Heat, and Alan Twitty Project (outdoor stage event)  go to :myspace.com/thesolarheat

Aug. 28  Spanky’s Prairieville 8th Anniversary Party featuring Cam Pyle and Soulhaven acoustic, 9pm.  Plus, 5:30 – 8:30  Kirk Holder and the Spanky’s All-Star Bar Crew sing.  All the Spanky’s crew that joins me on Sundays will perform!

Looking just a bit ahead, on Sunday Sept. 5, Kevin Schexnayder, Dennis Pennington and myself will perform at Spanky’s P’ville.  That’s the night before Labor Day and always a fun, packed night.  This is the infamous Thanksgiving Eve Trio, known from On the Half Shell.  We’re takin’ that show on the road (about a mile, give or take!).  With all Kevin and Dennis’ fans, this will be a crazy night!

You can link to my Facebook page from my website, and I will note some of the acts I have booked at several locations, on a daily basis – including Spanky’s P’ville and Sherwood Forest, On the Half Shell, and Mi Padre’s P’ville.

August is about the slowest time for festivals.  It’s just too hot to cook outside all day and mill about, I guess.  But here are just a few:

Aug. 7  White Linen Night, New Orleans - http://cacno.org/special+events/2010/WLN/

Aug. 5 – 8  Satchmo Summerfest, New Orleans - http://www.fqfi.org/satchmosummerfest/   We’ve done this one – it is hot, so dress right!

Aug. 5 – 8  Hot Air Balloon Championship, Baton Rouge – www.laballooning.com

Aug. 19 – 22  Shrimp Festival and Blessing of the Fleet, Delcambre – www.shrimpfestival.net

Aug. 26 – 29  Duck Festival, Gueydon – www.duckfestival.org

Next month…IT’S OKTOBERFEST TIME!!  http://www.deutscheshaus.org/  This is the last one at The Deutsches Haus’ present location, and who knows where or when it will return.  I hope there will be another one near our home again; but for now, this is a good one.

So, deal with the heat with a cold beverage, with me, at one of the shows.  Great things this month and coming soon!  I’ll miss being in Elvis gear this year – not sure I can keep the weight off for another year and fit in the leathers… hehe.  I will recognize the King in some fashion – maybe even sneak up to Memphis, myself!

Enjoy the last, lazy, hot days of summer!
Here’s to the King of Rock and Roll, forever… Elvis Presley
