December 2009
What a way to begin the Christmas season: Nov. 30 at the Superdome, with an early Christmas gift of Saints tickets, and another huge victory! The Dome was deafening, and the team is amazing. I can’t wait for each Sunday. I’m sure you all feel the same way. Can we…will we…could it be? Just stay ahead of the Vikings, is all I say, and have the road to the Super Bowl pass through New Orleans and all the faithful here in South Louisiana. Who Dat?!

November was a great month, though it seems I barely played music. We went to Disney for the Wine and Food Experience at Epcot – fantastic treats, including the Samuel Adams 14th anniversary ale, created just for the Epcot event! Hehe…I know, just a beer… but it was GOOD. The food and fun were overflowing, as always, for the big kids. The ESPN Club was great, too, as the Saints pulled out the win that day. France was as glowing and charming as always, to cap off the evening with champagne and pastry.

Knowing Pete Yorn was playing at The Varsity in BR and we couldn’t attend was disappointing; but then, the day before, I unexpectedly saw his name listed at Republic New Orleans for a show. We jetted down for sushi at Wasabi and a geat live show! Very nice show by a good songsmith.
I had my usual fantastic time playing White Light Night at Monjuni’s. I always see so many faces from my musical past, and I’m grateful for all the compliments. The month finished with a great time with Kevin Schexnayder and Dennis Pennington at On the Half Shell – the yearly Thanksgiving Eve Trio show. I am lucky to be part of it, because it is a wonderful time. Those guys are special and have very special friends and fans! We did a 6 hour show! Thanksgiving with Selena’s family and mine was nice – no cleanup, not much cooking, but no leftovers, either. We both wanted a turkey sandwich the next day - denied.
December is also shaping up to be an excellent month of fun and music with friends. I’ve got private parties with friends, the Boykins, as well as working with Laurie Whitney for another. I’ll be at Sullivan’s with the guys in the band, and I return to Churchill’s for the first time in a while. Check my dates page for shows at Mi Padre’s, Onezia, George’s, Spanky’s, and On the Half Shell.
BIG HOLIDAY SHOWS:
Dec. 23 - Chris LeBlanc and Kirk Holder with band and guest artists at Onezia Lounge!! This will be a lot of rockin’ fun with holiday music and many folks jamming. I love singing with Chris. Come by and sit in. Everything will be there for you to join in. Thanks Kyle Sonnier for providing a venue for another fun event. Fyi, this is Charles Pierce’s birthday, too! Small cover charge for this one...
Dec. 25 – This is one from the Way Back Machine: Christmas Night at THE CATERIE! …me… hehe.. I did this show with Todd Westbrook for quite a while. I may have even done it alone a long time ago. I remember it was great, as it was about the only place open. There may be more competition now, but let’s make it a night to remember and see old friends. I’m gonna try hard to get some classic Caterie performers on the stage, and we’ll have a very Merry Christmas! Small cover charge..
We are already planning some fun for New Year’s Eve, and I’ll keep ya posted, if you find yourself without plans. Other cool things are happening this month. I love New Orleans for Christmas and I recommend you check out Christmas New Orleans Style, at this site – http://www.neworleansonline.com/christmas/ Look for Reveillon menus, Christmas concerts at The Cathedral, and great hotel deals. Also, City Park is a classic – Celebration in the Oaks http://celebrationintheoaks.com/
Happy Birthdays to my Dad, Howard Holder, and to Dave Long. And to Jesus Christ, the reason for the season. Congratulations to Russ Bryant, getting married this month. Whatever you celebrate at this time of year, I hope it’s wonderful for you and your families. Let’s not forget all our troops overseas, who are gonna be away from their loved ones. Send along a card or a care package. I found sites that match donations and send greeting cards earlier this year, so look for those. I can’t imagine what those folks go through, but knowing somebody is thinking of them must help.
Just get out and see some friends and family this month. Drop by here, anyone – I have coffee, cokes, and a decent selection of winter beers. I’ll do my best to entertain and have fun with you at the gigs. Really looking forward to it all. I’m truly blessed and thankful for all your help, friendship, and support. Have a Merry Christmas!

“Somewhere in, in the distant night
I hear Christmas bells
The gentle snow keeps falling down on people
Who are homeward bound
That's the way it's always been
The circle never really ends
Christmas seems to come and go
Home's a place that I don't know
Holly leaves and Christmas trees
It's that time of year
Lights aglow and mistletoe
Don't mean a thing when you're not here
As I walk, walk this lonely street
The sound of snow beneath my feet
I'll think of how, how it used to be when
Holly leaves and Christmas trees
Use to mean so much to me”
