It’s Carnival Time! I hope everybody is having a great year, so far. It’s Super Bowl weekend, as I write this, and I’ve got a few days off to enjoy some Mardi Gras parades and the big game. It’s been wet here for a month, and the sun has rarely been out. I’ve been in a cave, but the groundhog is ready for winter to end, and I see signs of the approaching spring. Along with football beginning, it’s the best time of year in South Louisiana. The hardest part is always deciding which festival to attend - big problem, huh? Life is good. Well, today is good! I see crawfish prices at the corner seafood market, and I can’t wait for that smell. Wonderful!

Work is very steady. More gigs than I can accommodate are actually available. I think old Todd Westbrook should come back to town. He could get busy fast. I get tons of questions about him. Actually, I’ve heard two first-hand accounts that he is doing well, working in Austin for his brother, Drew. Good to know he is doing fine. Speaking of Todd and my working relationship, this is a funny item: Go to this website link - http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/MessageTopic.asp?p=6868798&Pg=4 - page 4 of Tigerdroppings has a posting about me. It continues for a while and concludes on page 10. Thanks Gerard for clearing that up! Hehe.... I really don’t know if anyone had any drug problems, only that I never have - maybe one too many shots, right? Of Tequila....

I’ve been working the occasional Wednesday at Spanky’s on Sherwood, and booking the acts for them, as well. Now, they will also do Wednesday music in Prairieville, and I’ll be booking the acts for that, too. So, stay in touch on that, music buds. They plan on installing a PA, so that will be an even more attractive gig, I hope, for my friends. Also, I’ve been working on the acts for Spanky’s Block Party on May 4, 2008. They expanded the budget this year, and we hope for a great day. So far, Chris LeBlanc Band and Long Neck Society are lined up. We’ll announce the final lineup soon. This event had a great festival feel to it last year, and Spanky’s is really trying to make it something special.

I’ll be back at Superior Grill on Feb. 9, with Matt Doran on keys, Chad Braud on drums, and Max Toler on bass (a new buddy, from New World Funk now). The night before, I’m at the Pastime Lounge - I can’t say enough about the pizza, as most of you BR folks know. Come out again and try it - or the terrific poboys - the bread is perfect! I’ll be at the Half Shell in BR a few times, and the food there is consistently delicious.

Quick beer joint: Abita Bock is out for the season. Grab a six-pack - it’s probably my favorite Abita varietal. Ask Dave Long when he’s gonna brew us up another batch of homebrew! Don’t forget to go to him for all your tube amp needs, also - his myspace site is Dave the Tube Guy.

Did I tell you I went to Phoenix in December to see my Mom? I also saw the Brian Setzer Orchestra - just flippin’ great, folks! He is unbelievable - what a well designed show, and career. The perfect example of taking something old, and stylizing it to suit a new audience, and getting rich and famous, all over again. Gotta appreciate his talent and foresight, as well as appreciation for great music. I took Mom to what will be a new favorite of mine - Four Peaks Brewery, in Tempe, Arizona. We had a great lunch, and I sampled 10 beers. You beer freaks would love this place, as would anyone who likes food and atmosphere. It was a wonderful lunch.

Thanks for the support everywhere. I hope you lovers have a nice Valentine’s Day. Are chocolate and flowers enough, fellas? NOPE.... hehe... but, it’s a start!
