Aren’t you glad
you live in the US, my friends? I am. I
sure find it sad to hear how many of our
own citizens just think we are a terrible
country. This is where it’s at, baby!
This is where you can do it all. And there
is now another country of free people in
the world. Our enemy is a dedicated, violent,
evil group of barely human beings, and those
who hide them and support them. And they
have the temerity to hide it in a religious
overcoat. The world will never be safe until
every one of these animals is sent on to
his heaven. I hope the US military can speed
them all along on that path. Just my opinion….
I am no hawk, I just believe there is evil
in the world and you can’t placate
it. Easy for me to say, I know, as I sit
in my safe home and work on my computer
and sing songs at night. Perhaps my life
is this nice because our forefathers sought
out and fought for a world free of tyranny
and religious zealots. Let me step back
off this soapbox….
So, Happy Independence
Day to you, my friends! I hope you have
a great time at BBQ’s, swimming pools,
on motorboats and jet skis. Go see some
fireworks and hold somebody’s hand
while they play “God Bless America”
and Ray Charles sings “America, the
Beautiful, God shed His grace on thee.”
That’s the way it should be.
Here is some of my news:
The new Bulldog gig, 5135 Canal Blvd. in
Mid-City NO, is going great (though it’s
hot out there, at times). Rusty, Herbie,
and all the staff are treating me so well,
and the audience is wonderful and supportive.
They often don’t let me leave when
it’s time to go. And,
while I’ll be at the old Bulldog at
3236 Magazine St., NO this month on Thursdays,
I’ll also be doing a “happy
hour” show at the new Bulldog on Fridays,
6-9pm (except for July 9th).
This is important for
ya’ll to know – The new Bulldog
gig is an outside show, on a great patio.
You all know how the weather can be, so
during the summer, that gig has some issues.
I’d hate for anyone to go to NO and
find out I stayed home due to weather. I
have arranged it with the management to
call me in the afternoon for any cancellations.
That way, I can let anyone else know about
the changes. So, feel free to call or write
me anytime I am scheduled to play at the
new Bulldog. Or call there. And
hey, that patio is available to use for
private parties! It is awesome and all you
have to do is call them and buy their beer
– no other fees! AND, they plan on
showing LSU games on a huge outdoor screen
on the patio, and I might do a band gig
there, like after a game! It’s
a great place, ya’ll. Please check
into it.
My gigs have just been
great, lately. Spanky’s seems to be
doing great on Sunday nights. I should be
there on the 4th of July, but check back
on that. Might take a holiday, myself. I
figure it will be a late crowd, due to fireworks,
but who knows. Call or write me, or the
bar, about that one. Oh, and while I’m
thinking of Sundays, Bo Jamison says that
the Damon King Band will still be doing
the occasional Sunday night show at the
Alligator Bayou Bar. Check out their website
link on my pages.
I had great times with
Toby, Terry, and Jeff, doing some Monday
Night Band shows at the Caterie. I’ll
schedule one of those in July, more than
likely. Check out Terry, with Jive Train,
at the Station on July 10th. Great dance
music with some groovy soul. Look for Jeff
and another Amos Moses show on July 31st
at Clicks. And look for Toby and Jeff at
www.johnnygossip.com.
On July 9th, Matt, Dan,
and Chad will join me for our once-a-month
show at Superior Grill – anything
might happen, musically. Keep checking the
calendar, cause I haven’t finished
booking July. I have new gigs coming in
New Orleans, definitely, and Lafayette,
hopefully. I’ll try to get back to
On the Half Shell as soon as they need me.
I love the Friday nights that I have played
there, but couldn’t pass up this every
Friday offer at the Bulldog. However, please
go see my great friends behind the bar,
Liz and Jenny. I’ll have shows at
the Station, the Vineyard, and Park Place
this month, as well.
I’m jonesing for
football now, ya’ll. I am ready for
bright, sunny, cool Saturdays and Superdome
Sundays of FOOTBALL! Life seems to be going
by so fast, I guess because I’m always
looking for the next good time, big game,
or fun festival. Not many festivals until
the fall, as far as I can tell. And,
that’s when my friends, Bill and Polly,
will be expecting their baby!!
Uncle Kirk might be as close as I come to
having a kid… hehe. Hey, the Superdome
lets you bring in a babe-in-arms for free,
Bill! Perhaps I can create a new Saints
fan. By the time he can go, it’ll
be the San Antonio Saints!
Alright then, come out
to a show, whenever you can. You know I’ll
have a beer or a shot with you, sing your
request or turn ya down politely (usually),
and always try to do a good show. Thanks
for looking in on me.
Kirk
P.S. Congratulations to
my good friend and webmaster, Jimmy Granier,
for marrying a fantastic lady, Katherine,
on July 2nd! Love ya, bro.
