The dog days are here,
it seems. May was nice and cool, but it’s
spicy warm now. Congratulations to graduates
and friends who are moving on after school.
I can barely remember graduating from LSU
in 1984 – 20 years ago! I’ve
never known exactly where I was heading
since then, either…. hehe. And, I’ve
definitely taken some wrong turns along
the way. But, I’m happy to still be
playing music and being my own boss. Many
of you have traveled the path, alongside
me. Thanks so much for being there.
A quick overview of this
month: Sundays at Spanky’s in P’ville
and Thursdays at the new Bulldog (5135 Canal
Blvd. @ City Park) are weekly gigs. I’ll
also show up at the Caterie twice, the Vineyard
twice, the Half Shell, Superior Grill, and
the Station. I decided to layoff of Seafood
Ya Ya on Tuesdays for this month. A few
new gigs are in the making – New Orleans
and Lafayette are options.
Don’t forget to
check on my links page for all kinds Baton
Rouge and New Orleans bands. Great things
are coming up for friends like the Cam Pyle
Band and Chris LeBlanc.
Ya’ll know I keep
up with festivals and such. There aren’t
a lot of happenings this month, but you
can look for the Back to the Beach Festival
at Lake Ponchartrain,
June 4 – 6, French Market Tomato Festival,
June 12 – 13, and the Bayou Lacombe
Crab Festival, June 25 – 27. July
has the Essence Music Festival the first
weekend, along with many 4th of July celebrations.
And, Happy Birthdays go to my sister, Kim,
and my buddy Joel’s wife, Angie Fitzgerald
(my friend, too!).
I just got back from
a nice weekend trip to Memphis, with some
buddies. I’m telling you all that
you must see the Dempsey’s. I think
there is a link to their site on my links
page. Fantastic, hard working, supremely
talented, hilarious, and eclectic rockabilly
band! And, in Memphis, eat ribs at Blues
City Café and a burger at Huey’s
– both easy on the wallet and taste
buds. The Flying Saucer is up there with
any of my favorite beer joints in New Orleans,
like the Bulldog, Lagers, and Cooter Brown’s.
Sorry to The Chimes – you don’t
even hold a candle to any of these, except
for food. But, The Chimes is all we got,
so I go there for something besides Coors
Light.
For you wealthy folks
who may have missed Paul McCartney on tour
here in the States, he is doing a European
tour. Just jet on over to Spain or France
and tell me all about it! It was the best
concert of my life, no doubt. I’m
gonna check out Al Green this month in Biloxi.
I look forward to seeing
you all soon. At my shows, you can now buy
the CD for $10. We gotta move these units,
baby! I hope your summer is going well.
Geaux Tiger baseball! It’s a long
shot, but I hope they can make it back to
Omaha.
Later,
Kirk
