Newsletter - June 05

Wow, it was a great, long spring, but now the heat is in force (and the rains) - it’s summer! I had my last batch of crawfish for the year in the middle of May. I was able to have a good amount this year, but found the prices never were great, until the very end. But, I guess everyone makes more money as time goes by, EXCEPT ME! No cost of living raises in the this biz... hehe. But all is well - got more gigs this month than I need.

Here are a few festivals to wet your appetite for June:

Back to the Beach Festival - www.saveourlake.org June 3 - 5 New Orleans

French Market Tomato Festival - www.frenchmarket.org June 12 New Orleans

Bicycle Festival - www.seelouisiana.com June 19 (Father’s Day) Abita Springs

Crab Festival - LaCombe June 24 - 26

LA Peach Festival - www.rustonlincoln.org June 22 - 26

Let me make a big welcome to the world to Sean Patrick Fitzgerald, son of Angie and Joel Fitzgerald, brother to Eryn - he’s a beautiful boy! Born on May 20th, 2005. And, Angie’s birthday is this month, so Happy Times, folks! Another Happy Birthday to my podnuh in Elvis crime - Gerard Langlois. He’ll be appearing with us at Superior Grill on June 17th!

I am continuing with the usual gigs this month, except a few more times. Margaritaville has really come on strong with some gigs. Along with my Tuesday afternoon slots each week, I’ll be doing a Friday night, and several Thursday night shows, 9pm-midnight. I had a great time there during Memorial Day weekend - best tips ever at a gig! I will continue at the Ditch on Wednesdays in June, 7-10pm, with Debbie Landry sitting in there on June 15th. Making 3 appearances at the Half Shell in Prairieville, one in Covington at Columbia St. Tap Room (cool joint), and going back to New Roads (has been a while) and Satterfields, twice. I’ll have Charles Pierce on percussion there on June 11; and, hopefully, someone else will join me on June 25, for some fun accompaniment.

Spanky’s, on Sundays, has been a real surprise these days. Thanks to all for supporting me there - or maybe it’s all there is to do on Sundays, until the Gator gets hot! But anyway, it’s been great! Listen to this - Chris LeBlanc is gonna play there for me on June 5th, which is awesome. Also, Spanky’s is holding it’s "2nd Annual Beach Party" on June 12th - a Sunday. The party starts at noon. The guys from Chris’ Specialty Meats will fire up the big pit and the food is FREE! You can watch baseball (with LSU, hopefully, playing) and NASCAR on the big screen. And I’ve arranged for some musical friends to come by - starting around 3pm.

June 12th lineup looks something like this:

3pm - Kirk Holder plays and gets things started

3:30pm - Blake Harlow gets on stage for acoustic rock

5pm - Chris LeBlanc jams

6:30pm - Debbie Landry will rock you

8pm - Skip sings the Bartender Blues

9pm - Kirk Holder and Charles Pierce finish out the night

Drink specials that day are $2.50 Coronas and $5.50 for Large Daiquiris. Wear your new bikini and grass skirts, or goofy flower print, you guys. Sandals and flip flops are required. Music will be piped outside, too! But if all that doesn’t sound nice to you..... what’re you - crazy!

Well, I’m looking forward to it all this month. It’s gonna be a long one, so come out and boost my energy level - I’ll need ya! Don’t forget to check out Chris LeBlanc at Spanky’s on June 5 and Debbie Landry at Ditcharo’s on June 15. Check my links page for all the great BR musicians.

One last item: my buddy, Clay Jenkins, is getting a few weeks of leave from Iraq, starting right now! Clay and I will be drinking, and he’s way worse than me!!! Can’t wait to hang with ya, my friend. All you Schellhead krewe members, join us!

Summer love,

K
