Greetings from beautiful, cool, South Louisiana - what global warming?!  Oh, and if you struggle as a young person, there is now an official syndrome – “failure to thrive.”  Hey, I had that – can I sue someone, please!!  I’m owed!  I need reparations.  Now that the government and the autoworkers own GM, it can become the great manufacturer of automobiles that we SHOULD be driving.  And, if it becomes wildly successful and makes millions, will its owners be skewered and disdained for making huge profits?  The question is rhetorical and moot… hehe.  Just like to rant, at times.  Luckily, I still can.  And I can still drive my truck that gets about 17 mpg, and eat and drink things that are bad for me – for now.

I had a wonderful May.  Cinco de Mayo was a wild success, and I thank all the musicians that joined us at Mi Padre’s.  The Spanky’s pre-Memorial night show was just great – Chad and Damon kicked butt, and the crowd was right there with us.  I was a little tired from a fantastic weekend in New Orleans, where we hit the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience in the Superdome, sampling many, many wines and food treats.  And, we enjoyed brunch and beers in the Quarter, then stopped by the Greek Festival in Lakeview.  Good times…. We wanted to also include an Indigo Girls show at Tipitina’s, but it was just too much to add to a full schedule.  I ended May with two annual private parties – thanks Catholic High/Brother Barry Landry, and Mike and Elaine Boykin.  You are wonderful friends to me, and my business.

Happy birthdays this month to Gerard Langlois ( Elvis to my Jesse!) and Angie Fitzgerald.  My big sis, Kim, turns 50 this month, as well.

Some interesting gigs are coming up.  I’ll do some Sundays at Spanky’s P’ville and my usual Wednesdays at Spanky’s on Sherwood in BR.  Mi Padre’s Prairieville is on the calendar.  I’ll hit Southpaws twice this month, as well as two Pastime gigs.  I’ll hit the patios at Monjuni’s on Jefferson, and at George’s.  That gig has become one of my most well attended shows.  I’ve got a couple of private parties and another pool party at Country Club of La.  Check out Chris LeBlanc and me duo-ing at Onezia Lounge in G-town on June 11.  I really enjoy singing with him and just listening to his immense talent.  Oh, I was just asked to open up for Long Neck Society at The Varsity Theatre on June 12!  Not sure of the time yet, but LNS is a fun show with good friends – they combine rock and zydeco into some good energy and great sounds.  I’ll keep you updated on that.

Recently, I began placing acts in the On the Half Shell restaurants, and I’ve taken advantage of that to book John Fohl at OTHS Prairieville on July 3.  I was booked, but this will be mo bettah!  I’m gonna take the night off and hang there and listen to one of my favorite guitar players.  He’s a true finger-picker and plays eclectic, old blues, swing, and western stuff – does originals, too.  He is also the touring guitarist for Dr. John.  So, next month, July 3rd, let’s pack OTHS P’ville for this talented guy.

I just realized Jimmy Granier, my webmaster, has my complete CD available for listening on this site – click on “Music” at the top of each page.  You can listen to all 10 tracks.  I haven’t given it an ear for a while – very wistful to recall all the effort, fun, sweat, and care I put into it, even though it’s not sonically what I wish it was.  I have to say there is nothing predictable there, the songs are not bad, and it’s full of my best friends in music helping me out.  I know, I know… I need to do another.  Believe me, I live with that thought on a daily basis.  I’m glad everyone liked the last song I wrote.  I hope I’ll get to doing that again, soon.  I’ve got to stop having so much fun!!

Hot fun in the summertime,

Kirk
