Newsletter - March 05

Just want to start this month’s newsletter with best wishes to Clay Jenkins in Iraq. You should be home soon, pal! Hope you and your crew are doing OK. Glad to hear you had two beers there recently! Hehe...

Ah well, I have to start this month by relaying some tough news. Just when I had mentioned that the old Bulldog gig was starting to move along so well, it is going to end. I hope this will be temporary, but as it stands, March will be my last appearance there, for a while. This is not being caused by myself or the club, but because of some legalities... and it’s a long, confusing story. This has been my longest-standing, and most rewarding show. I love this bar and will miss playing there. It’s been somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 years, and there have been many groups of incredible fans that have come and gone. Now, it’s time for me to move on and find new things, hopefully in New Orleans. I have already begun to get those wheels rolling.

So, you’ve got 5 Thursdays to try to make it to The Bulldog Uptown, 3236 Magazine St., New Orleans, at 9pm, to enjoy a pint and some tunes. Let’s try to make the last night, March 31, something special. Thanks Bulldog owners, managers, bartenders, and patrons for such a great run. Perhaps it will start up again.

This month, I’ll be in NO many times, along with the Bulldog gig. Every Wednesday, and a couple of Saturdays, I’ll be in the French Quarter at The Little Easy - 725 Conti; just 3 doors off of Bourbon Street, towards the river. They have great food all night long! Sundays will continue at Spanky’s, with Charles Pierce slapping his congo, and shooting with me. That gig is coming along nicely, and we look forward to the upcoming boating season, and the return of the "river rats." I’ll do 3 Fridays at On the Half Shell - the only place where you can hear good, acoustic music every night. This place is just IT - great food, great staff, great music, great ownership. And, I hear they are going to open another place in BR soon!

I’ll join the Monday Night Band (in Rhett’s place) at the Caterie twice this month, appear at the Vineyard once, and jam with my band mates at Superior Grill on March 25. Friends, this is not an acoustic show. We play electric guitars and drums and more upbeat songs. It can get loud, but it can be some of the best ad-libbing by talented players (Matt Doran, Chad Braud, Dan Bourgeios) you will hear in this town. We don’t practice - sometimes we start before we know how to finish... hehe.

Happy Birthdays to Chris LeBlanc and Jenny Bihm! Festival season is upon us, ya’ll. Can’t wait for sunny and warm days, crawfish boils, live music outside, and cold drinks on ice. Looking forward to seeing my Mom in Phoenix in April, along with U2! New gigs are coming up. Check me at The Bulldog before it ends. Go Tiger Basketball - men and women! LSU Baseball - beat Tulane, because they are #1 in the country! Saints - are you gonna make any off-season moves to show you are a football team or what?! No, I did not renew my season tickets, for $10 extra per game. I love the Saints, but show me something, Mister!

I’m still waiting for the first crawfish boil invitation..... I’ll chip in!

Thanks,

Kirk
