Thanks for checking
back in on my website and thanks to all
those who support my gigs and my music.
May is my birthday month – May 1st
is my birthday. My friend Jeanne, from
Prairieville, created a nice card for
me, that you can view from her posting
in my guestbook – thanks Jeanne!
I had a nice time with friends, celebrating
in New Orleans. Then, I had a great gig
at Spanky’s Daiquiris in Prairieville
the following evening. I was kinda disappointed
that the weather on Friday canceled events
at the Live After 5 show and the Breaux
Bridge Crawfish Festival. But, there’s
always something fun going on, someday,
somewhere!
So, I did make it to
Jazz Fest on April 24. The big name we
saw was Lenny Kravitz. Friends Bill, Liz,
and Jenny all touched the man, as he made
his way off the stage, down to the ground,
and walked around the barricades. I happened
to be indisposed at the time, and missed
the close encounter! But I think I saw
Jenny on the big screen! hehe….
It was a fun day and very laid back. Once
again, great, great food out there. My
favorite was this pulled pork cochon de
lais poboy. The poboy bread was perfect
New Orleans bread! Other favorites were
the stuffed artichoke and fried eggplant
topped with crawfish cream sauce.
In sports, I, as usual,
am keeping up with LSU baseball via the
radio. They should get to Omaha, but don’t
give me a lot of confidence, for some
reason. Strong team, though. I hope I
get to listen to them all the way into
June. I went ahead and purchased my Saints
season tickets, again, but downgraded.
Love to go to the games, but the losers
are not worth the higher priced tickets
I owned. I’m sure the owner, Benson,
doesn’t care, though. As long as
I bought something. I wasn’t too
impressed with their draft, but it will
be nice to have another LSU Tiger on the
Saints side – geaux Devery Henderson!
I hope the New Orleans Hornets can make
it to the next round of the playoffs,
but I doubt they’ll get further
than that. Not much of an NBA fan and
I didn’t see them play down here
this year, but I still follow what’s
happening. I am actually interested in
baseball this year. I think the perennial
losers, like the Astros, Cubs, and Red
Sox, have a shot this year. I’ll
go see the Astros v. Cubs in August, by
the way.
Well, my first month
at the new Bulldog, 5135 Canal Blvd.,
went quite well. I think that will become
a nice gig, though the vibe is totally
different from the original Dawg. I’ll
be going back to the Magazine Bulldog
this month. John Gros will be appearing
some at the new one – maybe Rhett
Anthony, as well! I’ll continue
to rotate between the two, month to month.
Other gigs are unchanged – continuing
to try to make Sundays at Spanky’s
and Tuesdays at Seafood Ya Ya a great
time. On the Half Shell has opened it’s
new bar room! Plenty of extra space for
lounging and listening to live music,
or even standing at the oyster bar and
slurping down fresh shucked ones. Check
the schedule page for all shows.
The story of the death
of football star and Army Ranger, Pat
Tillman, really touched me last month.
And he is just one of thousands of great,
young Americans that protect and die to
protect our lives. If you don’t
know, he gave up what would probably have
been a several million dollar football
contract to do his Ranger service. He
was killed in a firefight at the end of
April. I’m sure a majority of soldiers
have similar stories. God bless and protect
our military personnel.
Ok folks…. just
keeping you posted on some goings on in
my life. Nothing too exciting or new,
right now. I hope you are enjoying the
extended spring and coolest days I ever
recall in May. Come out to a gig when
you can and let’s have a good time.
