Hello there and thanks
for checking in on my schedule. I’m
44 this month - May 1st is my birthday!
It sounds old; might even feel old, lately;
shoot, it is old, who am I kidding?! But,
I’m still doing relatively well
and I am still immature, so that’s
something. I only know of a couple of
folks that don’t like me, so, I’m
rich with friends and happy to have another
year of history, and hope this new one
will be full of growth and change and
good times.
So, the news now is
that I have decided to leave this little
band project, Room Service. To be honest,
I had hoped it would give me a little
happy buzz about gigging. I am a tad burned
out, though I love what I do once the
music begins. I enjoyed my new band buddies,
too - Scott Jordan on bass, Jabari McCoy
on drums, and Russ Bryant on sax and keys
- they are great players. I just didn’t
get out of it what I had hoped. So, I
will keep looking for band or multiple
musician projects. And, if anyone needs
a guitarist/singer for the occasional
pickup gig, I’d like to do it. Look
for Russ in After 8, New Vinyl Groove,
and at Churchill’s on Wednesdays
with Emily Branton.
I’m going back
to a cool joint in Covington this month,
Columbia Street Tap Room - May 4th. Also,
a cool show at Clicks Billiards on May
16 - Charles Pierce and Blayne Coupel
on percussion, with Debbie Landry and
myself on acoustic guitar - all 4 of us
sing, too. And, I’m sitting in for
Damon King in his band on May 31 at Cadillac
Café. On May 27, Matt Doran and
Chad Braud, of New World Funk, rejoin
me at Superior Grill.
Look for a great day
on May 21st. Spanky’s Daiquiris
in Prairieville has it’s 2nd Annual
Crawfish Boil. It was probably the largest
crowd yet at Spanky’s on a Sunday.
We had jams by Chris LeBlanc, Debbie Landry,
Blake Harlow, Damon King, Bo Jamison,
Charles Pierce, and myself. It was a great
day and I hope we can do it all again,
with many players - old and new. If you
want to come jam, feel free. We’ll
probably start after the Nascar race ends
that day - usually 4ish. I’m hoping
it will be more of a band situation, as
opposed to acoustic all day. But, with
so many great players, it’s a can’t
miss situation.
I’m leaving the
festival hunts up to you this month. But,
there are always great ones the first
weekend of the month, like JazzFest and
Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. I could
be anywhere!
So, I’ll be looking
for some new gigs soon. I need to get
back into New Orleans. I know the Half
Shell is opening it’s second location
soon. There are other new spots in BR,
so keep checking on my schedule page.
And, just to go ahead
and say it (since LSU baseball seems kinda
down this year), I’m ready for some
football. Draft day is this weekend -
Saints have a new QB, thank goodness!
- fall will be here before we know it.
OK, OK, I’ll enjoy the summer, for
now. I’m FOHTY FOH!
