November 2009
The beautiful weather has finally arrived, after tons of rain to end the summer, which in turn was very dry. Seems my lawn is as green as it has been most of the year now, as the cutting season is ending. We are enjoying some great, mild days and cool evenings.
October was a busy month. Liz Dunn’s wedding was a really fun night out. We slept a couple of hours and got out to the LSU v. Florida game with friends, and great tickets from Joan Abbott (thanks!). Fun and exhausting weekend. I passed up a chance to see U2 in Houston, which I regret, but I have more money to spend on a vacation this month. I found out my best friend, Joel Fitzgerald, is heading to Denver in a career move. Luckily, he and I were able to visit Deutsches Haus for some Oktoberfesting - we had a blast. I’m gonna miss you, Joeybear. You know I wish you, Angie, Eryn, and Sean all the best, and I’ll be up there next year for the Great American Beer Festival, for sure!
The month finished off with another good LSU v. Auburn tailgate party, where we saw Andrew Schellhase and Randy Miller – old buds from out of town. Also jammed on Halloween night with tons of great musicians at French Quarter Daiquiris… thanks to Debbie Landry for arranging that.
The Saints are huge, and November begins with Monday Night Football with Selena and all my Saints buds heading out to watch. I’m off of work for over a week before I get into the meat of the gig schedule. The last Sullivan’s gig was very cool, with Laurie Whitney joining us. We may do that again – Nov. 12 is the next one. I’m at Mi Padre’s, George’s, French Quarter Daiquiris, Southpaws, On the Half Shell, and Spanky’s this month. Check the calendar page.
Here’s an annual cool gig: On Nov. 20 at Monjuni’s on Jefferson @ Government, White Light Night happens. With many Mid-City retail stores and restaurants opening their doors, showing art and providing music and treats, people walk all over that area of town and enjoy a great night out. I’ll be playing by Monjuni’s around 6pm, so come grab a parking spot and a table early. I hope it’s not too cold by then.
On Nov. 25, I’ll again do the annual Thanksgiving Eve trio with Kevin Schexnayder and Dennis Pennington at On the Half Shell in Prairieville. This is turning into a well-attended and fun event. We do some nice 3-part harmonies on a few tunes, and otherwise, we just mess around with each other’s songs and have fun with the Wokanowans (don’t ask me). That’s the night before Thanksgiving, around 6pm. Get there early.
Recommend: Pete Yorn at the Varsity in BR on Nov. 18.
Happy Birthday Bo Jamison on Nov. 9! I hope it’s a great one for you.

There are many other events, but I’ll leave some searching up to you this month. I’ll try to provide a bunch of holiday stuff to you in the next newsletter. I’m excited and wondering where I’ll spend Thanksgiving this year. With Selena, there are always many alternatives… hehe.. .and, they all cook incredibly, as does my Dad and his wife. So it’ll be fat day, and I’m gonna love it!
It’s a great time of year, friends, and I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. I am blessed with so much and grateful to you all for your support. Let’s hope for some continued football success for our teams and some great fall moments, as we head into winter and all the holiday madness and happiness. And I’ll see you out there…
Thanks,
Kirk
