How can you wake up each morning of the fall and not just feel energized and excited? Just like spring. Best times of the year! The Month of Savings, I call it (low utility bills!). And, it’s Oktoberfest time, again! The specialty beers that come out in the fall are my favorites. Here are a few that I really appreciate: Samuel Adams Octoberfest (thank to Richard Abbott, I’ve already got two cases before it’s even arrived here), Abita Fall Fest (only found one six-pack of this, so far), and a new one Harvest Moon by the folks who make Blue Moon. These beers are nice and smooth, malty, and medium bodied with a caramel color. Fabulous!

You know I’m gonna tell ya where you can find some Oktoberfest celebrations!

As usual, Lamar Dixon Exposition Center has the original Louisiana Oktoberfest that started in Ponchatoula - http://www.oktoberfestla.com.http://www.oktoberfestla.com/

A couple of buddies and I went to Deutsches Haus, a German heritage preservation hall in New Orleans, last year, for Oktoberfest activities. I enjoyed it. It was homey and happy. Food was not typically good or even necessarily German, though. But, good beer choices and happy folks. Crowded! - http://www.deutscheshaus.org/

Robert’s Cove is an old German settlement in Southwest, LA. They have a Germanfest. I’ve never been, but I suspect it has some very original events - http://www.robertscovegermanfest.com/

Ponchatoula is trying to re-create their Oktoberfest scene, with an Oktoberfest and Fall Music Festival. I called and it doesn’t sound like they really are committed to the German angle, but - http://www.ponchatoulachamber.com/

There is a Cajun Oktoberfest in Sorrento, but I have no details - 225-675-5572

Here’s a new idea: Heiner Brau is a micro brewery in Covington. They are having an Oktoberfest, too - http://www.heinerbrau.com/dynamic.php?pg=OKTOBERFEST

I’m hoping that someday Selena will take me to her hometown festival, in LaPlace - the Andouille Festival, which is this month. I also see that the Gretna Heritage Festival is the first weekend in October, and they have some big names in music.

We’ll look back at my football predictions in a few weeks, but it’s obvious that the Saints are not going to the Super Bowl. But, we did get to the Dome for Monday Night Football, and that is always a good time! But, they totally blew! Oh, speaking of beer and New Orleans, we were disappointed in a recent visit to Crescent City Brewery - beer was bland and boring! Gimme the Abita Pub in Abita Springs.

Oh, hey... I play guitar and sing, too, so look for me at gigs on my schedule! Hehe...... Fyi, new gig at Spanky’s on Sherwood Forest this month, plus a return to Fat Mama’s at the Bluffs. Should be perfect weather for a patio evening there.

Enjoy the season and the football - LSU v. Florida in just a few days - that’s big-time, baby! I guess I should also say have a great party on Halloween, but I just don’t get into that much, these days. I guess I dress up and pretend to be somebody else all the time!

Thanks,

Kirk
