September 2011

I want to start off this month’s newsletter by thanking everyone, again, for all the support of The Elvis and Jesse Show: the 2011 Comeback Special.  It was the best we’ve ever done!  We raised almost $1800 for our charity, and we had a blast with so many great friends.  Here is a synopsis: http://www.facebook.com/notes/kirk-holder/summing-up-elvis-and-jesse-the-2011-comeback-special/10150258437191954

Are you ready for some football?!!!  Yes please…and the air is slightly drier, and some leaves are falling early.  We’re ready to feel this change, and we are very excited about all that is going on around our house renovation, our travels, and our lives.  I’ve got a pretty exciting and busy month of music.  And if you don’t know me well, know this:  it’s almost fall festival season and I plan that stuff out like my wedding – the shit is on the schedule!

The Labor Day/LSU football debut weekend starts with gigs at Southpaws Daiquiris and Metairie Country Club on Thursday and Friday.  Then, Saturday afternoon, Charles Pierce and I will play the dock at Satterfields on False River, New Roads, 2pm – 6pm.  LSU kicks off at 7:07pm.  I’m at Beausoleil for the regular brunch gig Sunday, and then Charles and I will reprise Satterfields on Labor Day, 3pm – 7pm.  I have the week off after all that!  Of course, the Saints v. Green Bay Packers is the highlight of that week.  WHO DAT?!!  I hope they get better at stopping the run.

Also beginning this month, and running through November, are the patio acoustic shows at Monjuni’s Italian Restaurant on Jefferson near Government, Baton Rouge.  This is a real treat, with great food and great outdoor atmosphere.  I’ll do two of those – Sept. 23 and 30.

Jamming with some great music buds this month, too!  Mike Tramonte is joining me this time for the gig at Jack Daniels Bar at L’Auberge du Lac Casino in Lake Charles.  Last month, Charles Pierce and I had fun, but struggled with the stage sound there.  I hope Mike and I have an easier time.  At least we found a diner in town for post-show greasing -  http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/191/1020172/restaurant/K-Ds-Po-Boys-Soup-Salad-Lake-Charles.  Plus on Sept. 22, Joey Decker and Nick DiMaio will join me at Perkins Rowe, Baton Rouge, for the Rock N Rowe concert series - http://www.perkinsroweshops.com/events.cfm.  Looking forward to lotsa music with friends, including a private party with Lindsey Spiller, Matt Doran, and Clay Coleman.

I’m happy to volunteer my time for a very worthy event on Sept. 24 - http://www.onemanshoot.com.  My dear friends, the Boykin family, are very personally involved in this event.  It’s gonna be a fun weekend and I’ll be playing all day Saturday, between shooting events.  Come on out and join us, or even put together a shooting team, for a day of fun, food, and friendship.

Here are two out-of-town, big events that I’ve never attended, but are on my bucket list:

Austin City Limits Music Festival, Sept. 16 – 18  www.aclfestival.com  Again, a year will pass when I don’t make this one.  Usually, I purchase tix and resell them.  It’s annually voted the best music festival in the nation!

Great American Beer Festival, Denver, CO, Sept. 29 – Oct. 1  http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com  After visiting my buddy Joel in Denver this year, I truly can’t wait to get back up there and go to this one – not this year, though.

Also beginning at the end of the month, it’s Oktoberfest time!  We usually try to hit Deutsches Haus in New Orleans for one day of this month-long party.  This old society has moved to a new, temporary location, so I’m not sure how it will be - http://deutscheshaus.org - but it actually begins Oct. 1.  It’s a great time!

Happy Birthdays to Cam Stafford, Anita Thompson, Joan Abbott, and Bill Stafford.

Well, that’s about it for now.  I sure appreciate all the gigs I have, and everyone who can still get out to listen.  Thank you all!  It’s football season – time to get in the game!!

HUT HUT!!
