Newsletter - July 2008

It’s time to begin promoting one of the best shows of the year.  Gerard Langlois and I are lining up the Elvis and Jesse Show again this year!  It’s scheduled for August 17, 2008 at Sullivan’s on College @ Corporate, 7 – 10pm.  We’ll have most of the same backup band, and it will be as funtastic as always.  Mark this one down and start telling everyone.  That’s a Sunday, fyi.  If we can, we’ll again make this event charity related, to keep in the spirit of Elvis Presley.

July 2008

New gigs this month:

Jones Creek Café – July 17 and 31

15005 Market St., Baton Rouge, 225-755-3550
This great spot has been around for decades, now in a newer facility.  I’ll be on the patio, with good weather – 6:30pm.  http://www.jonescreekcafe.com/  In the Shenandoah/Woodlawn area…

Mi Padre’s Mexican Grill and Cantina – July 9

37460 Ultima Plaza Blvd, Prairieville, 225-673-6364
Marco used to be at Superior Grill, and though I wasn’t looking for more Wednesdays, he really wants me there!  Nice little cantina – next to Winn Dixie on Airline – 6pm.

It’s been a tough half year on my voice.  Just can’t get in a groove with it and I’ve been frustrated.  I hope it gets better soon, but it’s been difficult.  July is not as busy, so I hope it will improve and get back to normal.  I apologize for one of my worst sounding performances, EVER, at Pastime Lounge in June.  Thanks to G Lang and Joan for helping me get through that one.

Not many festivals in July, but there is one in my hometown, Gonzales: Swamp Pop Music Festival,  July 18 – 19 - http://www.swamppopmusicfest.com/home.php.  Of all the towns in all the world, this style of music has to be here, huh?  Hehe….  Check out Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, celebrating all those fabulous concoctions - http://www.talesofthecocktail.com/2008/index.php

I am carrying over these ideas from last month – please help me with them:
Help me on this idea, please friends:  my buddy, Clay Jenkins, serving in Afghanistan, says what they need over there are books, magazines, and CDs.  He says they always seem to run short of those.  Will you buy or donate any books or magazines, and burn/copy or donate any CDs to this cause, and bring them to my gigs this month?  If we can send a nice box of these items there, I’d be grateful.  I’ll handle all the shipping.  I guess it’s up to us to figure out the type of material, but anything would be worthwhile, I’m sure.  Maybe you have some CDs you don’t listen to often.  Shoot, just download it to your computer or burn a copy – we’ll send them over.  Thank you very much.

Related to that – check out http://www.jrcigars.com/  Go to that site and enter the word TROOPS in the cigar search box at the top left.  It will open up a page where you can buy 4 cigars at the price of 3.  And JR Cigar will send another cigar to US troops overseas!  I’m gonna take advantage of this deal.  What a good gift for your friends who enjoy an occasional smoke - and we’ll be doing another nice thing to remember our military personnel.

I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July holiday celebration.  Might be doing a little bit of that myself.

Thanks,

Kirk
