Newsletter - May 2008

Here is an update to the May news, friends:

1)  You can get a $5 off coupon for admission to the Spanky's Block Party on May 4 by picking up Tiger Weekly, coming out April 30th - look for the ad and the coupon inside.

2)  I forgot to mention that Rhett Glindmeyer is coming back to town this month, and I was able to get him booked at Pelican Pub, 6473 LA Hwy 44, Gonzales, (225) 257-4153, on May 14th - 7-10pm.  Please keep this in mind while planning your music outings.

May 26 is Memorial Day, and I’d like to start this newsletter by saying how grateful I am to anyone who has served in the United States military, past and present, active or not, and their families - many making the ultimate sacrifice that allows us to thrive as a society.  Thank you for protecting me and making this country a safer place to live, because without you, I don’t think any of us realize where we might be.  To those that have given their lives, God bless their families.... and I hope we all honor their memory.

May starts off with a continuing lazy week, as I celebrate my birthday, May 1st.  The first weekend brings Spanky’s Block Party, at Spanky’s in Prairieville, May 4, 2pm - midnight.  Live music and all kinds of fun in the parking lot, and inside.  $15 admission.

Band lineup for Spanky’s Block Party, Sunday, May 4:

2pm - 3:30pm  David Borne w/Brett Smith - acoustic.  David and Brett will start the day with some cool acoustic music, to wet the appetite.

4pm - 5:30pm  Chris LeBlanc Band.  Ya’ll know Chris will kick off the party hard - playing whatever style he decides to play, and doing it better than anyone else.  This trio will rock!

6pm - 7:30pm  Long Neck Society.  Last year, LNS was the hit of the Block Party, and they are back.  With smart song arrangements, great Dennis Pennington vocals, and a young gun-slinger on guitar, these guys will make you start moving.

8pm - 9:30pm  Spank the Monkey.  Recently reformed, Spank is rockin’ the local and regional scene, once again.  With Joel and Heath onstage, clothing is optional!  As the sun fades, Spank the Monkey will bring out the vampires!

10pm - 11:30pm  Benjy Davis Project.  These guys continue to grow and grow and make their way onto the national stage.  Their cool songs and jammin’ style will round out the day with a fantastic finish.

I start my gigs this month on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, at Mi Padre’s on Airline in P’ville - a happy hour show, with Matt Doran.  Come have a margarita with us.  May 9, I’m at Monjuni’s on Jefferson, and "Hot Art, Cool Nights" is happening in Mid-City.  We were slammed last September for a similar event - check it out - http://midcitymerchants.com/.

I’ll be at Mariner’s in Port Vincent on Mother’s Day, after lunch, of course (the busiest day for restaurants at lunch).  But, if Mom wants some music, bring her by.  Mariner’s is a great, relaxing, outdoor show, on the water.  Really enjoy that Sunday show.  It’s giving me a pause from Spanky’s, and I’m digging it.  The food is also great.

Happy birthdays this month to Raegan and Dylan Labat, as well as my good buddy Joel Fitzgerald.  Me too!

As always, thanks for all the support and friendship.  I’m one lucky guy!
